Locals and visitors enjoyed architecture, history, and community spirit over the weekend as Great Houses of Charters Towers returned for another successful year.

A new petition is calling on the Queensland Government to halt plans to demolish the vacant Eventide units in Charters Towers. Put forward by Traeger MP Robbie Katter, the petition urges the State to preserve the 54-unit facility on Hackett Terrace and use it to help ease the town’s worsening housing crisis.

In 1925, Nevill Westwood and Greg Davies set out in their tiny Citroën 5CV, affectionately named “Bubsie,” becoming the first to drive a car around the entire continent. Now, 100 years later, a team from Incredible Journey is retracing their path in a lovingly restored Citroën 5CV — almost identical to the original.

Katter’s Australian Party has launched a second petition calling for stronger self-defence laws in Queensland, urging the new state government to introduce Castle Law protections. The KAP says this second petition is needed after last year’s Queensland election, claiming a major cultural shift is needed.
